You can’t be what you can’t see.” (Marian Wright Edelman, American civil rights activist)

SHE STARTED IT gives a new face to the popular image of the tech entrepreneur: a female face.

Presented by Venture Taranaki and proudly sponsored by Automio, this film is co-directed by journalists Insiyah Saeed and Nora Poggi and follows five passionate, trailblazing young women who strive to compete and thrive in the ruthlessly competitive boys club of high tech startups.

The idea behind the documentary is to give exposure to women tech founders and to empower a next generation of female leaders - particularly in business and in the technology sector. The filmmakers sought to give young women examples of females as tomorrow’s business leaders. Through their stories, the film explores themes of confidence, career choices, STEM careers, the importance of family support and mentorship for women, gender bias in technology fields, and opportunities for young women in technology.

Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion with our very own businesswomen and female entrepreneurs who are keen to encourage the new generation, so do join us to hear them discuss the film and share their amazing stories.

Event schedule: 7pm - 8pm: screening / 8pm - 8.45pm: panel discussion

This event is open to everyone. We would especially like to encourage parents with children from Intermediate age and older to attend and be inspired!
