A University of Otago panel will discuss advances, diverse applications, impacts and ethics of AI, machine learning and computer vision.

An overview of recent applications and advances in AI, machine learning and computer vision.

A discussion of the ethics of the use of these technologies including driverless cars, impacts on employment and the criminal justice system.

A discussion of state-of-the-art applications of these technologies, including fields as diverse as medical imaging, conservation, digital heritage, and archaeology.

Chair of the AI Forum of NZ, Stuart Christie, will be the MC for this event.

Speakers

Associate Professor Ali Knott has an extensive background in Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence. Ali has an MSc and PhD in AI from Edinburgh University and a postdoc in Computational Linguistics. Ali is a member of the University of Otago AI and society group and works at Soul Machines.
Dr Steven Mills has a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Otago. Steven has worked in commercial research at Areograph Ltd and the Geospatial Research Centre. Steven is a member of the University of Otago AI and society group and has as extensive academic background in computer vision.
Stu Christie, management consultant and chair of the AI Forum of NZ is also a core group member of Fintech NZ, an Investment Committee member at Uniservices and an advisor to various high growth companies. He has an MBA from the Bradford School of Management in the UK.
