World Metrology Day 2018

Tue 22 May 9am — 6pm

Callaghan Innovation, Alan MacDiarmid Centre, 69 Gracefield Road, Gracefield, Lower Hutt, New Zealand

Exciting changes for the worlds primary measurement standards – an update on the kilogram of the future.
This event has already happened!

World Metrology Day is an annual celebration to mark the signing of the Metre Convention on the 20th May 1875, which set the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement.

Metrology, the science of measurement, plays a central role in scientific discovery and innovation, industrial manufacturing and international trade, in improving the quality of life and in protecting the global environment.

There is a historic change to take place in May 2019, where we will finally see all of the SI base units (International System of Units), such as the kilogram, Kelvin and the metre, referenced to a fundamental constant, as opposed to a physical artefact.

Please join and here our renowned scientists update you on the planned changes and what impact it will have for New Zealand and the opportunities it creates for technological advances.
